CAL Fire is currently receiving applications until January 10 at 3:00 p.m. for the Wildfire Prevention Grant Program. This grant aims to allocate funds specifically dedicated to hazardous fuels reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and wildfire prevention education in and near fire threatened communities.

The primary object of the Wildfire Prevention Grant Program is to improve public health and safety while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A total of $117 million has been allocated to this grant initiative. Proposals will be evaluated and selected based on their capacity to minimize the risk of wildfires to a significant number of residential buildings within State Responsibility Areas and neighboring communities. Emphasis will be placed on prioritizing projects that aid disadvantaged, low-income, disabled, or elderly demographics. Additionally, projects showcasing a tangible reduction in carbon emissions throughout their execution will receive heightened consideration.

Special districts are listed as eligible applicants in accessing financial support aimed at mitigating the risks associated with wildfires in their respective communities. To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the application process and criteria, interested parties should review the grant guidelines and access the online application.

Award announcements are expected in summer with a performance period up to March 15, 2030.
