The National Special Districts Coalition provides weekly highlights for CSDA Members on newly-opened federal grant opportunities, as curated by The Ferguson Group (TFG). Districts pursuing grants but are uncertain of their options may complete NSDC’s Project Idea Portal for a connection directly to TFG. This week’s selection of new grant opportunities include:

Department of Energy

FY 2023 Composting and Food Waste Reduction Pilot Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program provides cooperative agreements with

eligible entities to develop and test strategies for planning and implementing municipal compost plans and food waste reduction plans. Proposed projects can be located in all community types including rural, urban and suburban. Click here for more information.

governments, special district governments, tribal governments, and tribal organizations.

FY 2023 Community Connect Grant Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program provides financial assistance to eligible applicants that will provide service at or above the broadband grant speed to all premises in rural, economically-challenged communities where broadband service does not exist. The deployment of broadband services on a “community-oriented connectivity” basis stimulates economic development and provides enhanced educational and health care opportunities in rural areas. WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Incorporated organizations; Indian tribes or tribal organizations; state and local governments; and any other legal entity, including a cooperative, private corporation, or limited liability company organized on a for-profit or not-for-profit basis.

FY 2023 Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance 

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program assists communities and regions in devising and implementing long-term economic development efforts through a variety of non-construction and construction projects. Through this program, the funding agency intends to advance general economic development in accordance with its investment priorities, but also to pursue projects that, where practicable, incorporate specific priorities related to equity, workforce development, and climate change resiliency so that investments can benefit everyone for decades to come. Funding will support bottom-up strategies that build on regional assets to spur economic growth and resiliency, and applicants are encouraged to propose initiatives that present new ideas and creative approaches to advance economic prosperity in distressed communities. District organizations; Indian Tribes; states, counties, cities, and other political subdivisions of states, including special purpose units of state or local governments engaged in economic or infrastructure development activities; institutions of higher education; and private or public nonprofits acting in cooperation with officials of political subdivisions of states.

WHEN'S IT DUE? There are no application submission deadlines. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the publication of a new PWEAA NOFO, cancellation of this PWEAA NOFO, or all available funds have been expended. 

Department of the Interior

FY 2023 Rangeland Resource Management Program 

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program administers grazing for more than 155 million acres of public land. This includes, but is not limited to, such things as inventorying, controlling, and managing noxious weeds and invasive species; improving rangelands through grazing management, vegetation restoration treatments, and grazing management structures; and soil resource management. Department of the Interior

FY 2023 Inflation Reduction Act: Threatened and Endangered Species Program 

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program aims to conserve and recover federally-listed and Bureau sensitive animal and plant species and their habitat on public lands. The program also shares cooperative responsibility with other Bureau of Land Management (BLM) programs and partners for conservation of more than 2,700 non-listed BLM sensitive species with a goal of avoiding the need to list them in the future. The funding agency is looking for projects that are state or regional in scope or projects that provide a programmatic approach for improving the Bureau effectiveness or efficiency. Click here for more information.

FY 2023 Plant Conservation and Restoration Management Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program works with partners to increase the quantity, diversity, and effectiveness of native forbs and grasses for restoration of wildlife habitats and rehabilitation after wildfires. Click here for more information.

FY 2023 Bureau of Land Management Headquarters (HQ) Wildlife Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to ensure self-sustaining populations and a natural abundance and diversity of wildlife on public lands for the enjoyment and use of present and future generations. The program is responsible for managing habitats for wildlife species that depend on public lands for all or part of their life cycle. Click here  for more information.

FY 2023 Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to build capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Tribal governments to implement new and innovative approaches to enhance existing juvenile drug treatment courts and improve outcomes for youth with substance use or co-occurring mental health disorders, including histories of trauma. FY 2023 Advancing the Use of Technology to Assist Victims of Crime

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to increase access to victim services and builds the technological capacity of victim-serving organizations to meet the needs of crime survivors through innovative solutions and trauma-informed approaches. Click here for more information.

FY 2023 Upholding the Rule of Law and Preventing Wrongful Convictions Program 

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to enhance criminal justice system integrity through support to wrongful conviction entities (WCR entities) that represent individuals with post-conviction claims of innocence to review their potentially legitimate cases, as well as support to Conviction Integrity Units. Click here for more information.

National Endowment for the Humanities

FY 2023 Digital Projects for the Public

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program supports projects that interpret and analyze humanities content in primarily digital platforms and formats, such as websites, mobile applications and tours, interactive touch screens and kiosks, games, and virtual environments. Click here for more information.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Nonprofit organizations, state and local government agencies, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, and accredited institutions of higher education.
