2020_DMTD_Submit_Videos.jpgHigh school and college students are invited to participate in our Student Video Contest this summer. It’s a great opportunity to get our youth engaged in local government, as well as to educate the public on the essential services provided by our state’s more than 2,000 special districts.

Students are encouraged to create a fun and informative video (90 seconds or less) highlighting the ways special districts ‘Make the Difference’ in California communities. Contestants have the opportunity to win a scholarship, as well as additional prize money for their teachers to support distance learning efforts.

The top three vote-winners will receive scholarship money of up to $2,000 based on their placement, as well as an additional $500 for their teacher or classroom in support of distance learning. The cash prize for teachers is a new addition this year, designed to show appreciation to all the teachers who worked, and continue to work, diligently to support distance learning for their students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus has also made this year’s competition more unique by providing young filmmakers the opportunity to not only educate the public on the essential services regularly provided by their special districts, but also how those districts are adapting and confronting COVID-19 to support the unique needs of their constituency.

Visit our Districts Make the Difference website to learn more about the contest. The right sidebar provides resources to help you promote the contest, including various graphics, a sample newsletter article, a sample press release, etc., as well as videos of last year’s winners.
