As effects of COVID-19 continues in the U.S., so does CSDA’s push to secure special districts’ inclusion in federal pandemic relief for state and local governments.

HR 7073, the Special Districts Provide Essential Services Act, was introduced June 1. Since then, 23 members of Congress have cosponsored the bill, including 16 from California. Thirty-six of California’s special districts have communicated their support for HR 7073 to their federal representatives and to CSDA.

Districts interested in sending a letter of support can download the template letter here. Additional materials are found on CSDA’s COVID-19 Take Action page including a fact sheet with talking points, discussion guide and FAQ document. A how-to article on how to communicate with your federal and state representatives can be found on the site as well.

As federal legislative action remains in the U.S. Senate’s hands, CSDA continues to have positive discussions with Senator Kamala Harris and Senator Dianne Feinstein’s offices and has ongoing coordination with sister state associations for special districts in Colorado, Florida, Oregon and Utah in efforts to recruit support in the Senate from across the country.

Stay tuned to the COVID-19 Take Action page and the CSDA Advocacy News Blog for developments on this and other legislative topics as they happen. For any questions on federal legislative efforts, please contact Cole Karr, CSDA Public Affairs Field Coordinator, at colek@csda.net or (417) 861-7418.
