New Grant Opportunities
Grants for Buses & Bus Facilities Program and Low-No Program Are Now Open!
The Federal Transit Administration just released a joint Notice of Funding Opportunity for two programs: the Low or No Emission Grant Program and the Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program. Together, approximately $610 million is available for transit bus and facility projects this cycle. FTA encourages applicants to apply to both programs when a project is eligible under each. If a dual-submitted project is selected for funding, FTA will determine which program funds the award.
Both programs are open to local government entities that operate or support fixed-route bus service, which includes transit districts, transportation authorities, and other special districts with transit operations.

Low or No Emission Grant Program
- $589 million total available | 10-20% match required
- Application Due September 21, 2026
Funds the purchase or lease of buses that use low- or no-emission propulsion technologies including propane, CNG, hybrid-electric, hydrogen fuel-cell, and battery-electric, as well as related supporting facilities such as charging, fueling, and maintenance infrastructure. No minimum or maximum award amount. At least 25% of funds will go to low-emission (not zero-emission) projects.

Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program
FY 2026 | U.S. DOT Federal Transit Administration
- $21 million total available | 10-20% match required
- Application Due September 21, 2026
Supports the purchase, lease, or rehabilitation of transit buses regardless of propulsion type, and the construction, purchase, rehabilitation, or lease of bus-related facilities and equipment. No minimum award amount; no single recipient may receive more than 10% of the total available. At least 15% of funds are reserved for projects in rural areas.

FY 2027 Brownfields Job Training (JT) Grant Program
WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to recruit, train, and place local, unemployed, and underemployed residents with the skills needed to secure full-time employment in the environmental field and support cleanup and revitalization efforts in their own communities. WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Eligible applicants are local governments, community development agencies, land clearance authorities or other quasi-governmental entities that operate under local governments, government entities created by state legislatures, regional councils, redevelopment agencies, states, federally recognized Indian tribes other than in Alaska, Alaskan Native Regional and Native Village Corporations and nonprofit organizations.
TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? Between $5 million and $6 million

Department of Housing and Urban Development
FY 2026 Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Grant Program
WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to support a comprehensive approach to addressing multiple childhood diseases and injuries in the home by focusing on housing-related hazards in a coordinated fashion, rather than addressing a single hazard at a time. This cycle also introduces Weatherization Supplemental funding to support energy efficiency and reduce indoor environmental hazards in low-income housing. Click here for more information.
WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Eligible applicants include state, county, city or township, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments; 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (other than institutions of higher education), and faith-based organizations.

FY 2026 Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program
WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to assist units of local government in undertaking comprehensive programs to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately-owned rental or owner-occupied housing populations. Healthy Homes Supplemental funding is also available to enhance the lead-based paint hazard control activities by comprehensively identifying and addressing other housing hazards that affect occupant health in homes being treated under this program. FY 2026 Older Adult Home Modification Grant Program (OAHMP)
WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to support comprehensive projects that make safety and functional home modification repairs and renovations to meet the needs of low-income seniors. Click here for more information.
WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Eligible applicants are state, county, city, township, and special district governments; nonprofit organizations; faith-based organizations; and public housing authorities. Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience in providing services to elderly adults.
TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $64 million
