The Special District Grant Accessibility Act (H.R. 7525) was approved by the U.S. House Oversight and Accountability Committee on a 38-2 vote. H.R. 7525 would define special districts in federal law for the first time and is endorsed by the National Special Districts Coalition, of which CSDA is a founding member.
This was one of the first formal steps in the legislative process, with the next step being the House floor. Sponsors plan to move the bill on the Suspension Calendar, which is typically used as a way to expedite non-controversial pieces of legislation. It requires a two-thirds majority to pass a bill on Suspension.
The two "no" votes in committee were cast by Reps. Scott Perry (R-PA) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).
