Special districts provide essential services to millions of Californians every day, and it’s time for us to tell our story. The Capitol, the media, and most importantly, the community you serve should understand the difference your special district makes.
Assembly Concurrent Resolution 17 proclaims the week of May 16-22, 2021 to be Special Districts Week. This will be the third-annual celebration of Special Districts Week, which also coincides with Special Districts Legislative Days this year.
Announcing the Special Districts Week resolution is the perfect end to February’s Take Action Month. Thank you for joining us over the past month as we worked together to spread the word about the important work you do.
Our Take Action Month Toolkit will remain available at https://www.csda.net/advocate/take-action/ta-toolkit to allow your district to continue to take advantage of these helpful resources.
In the toolkit you will find:
- A sample meeting request letter that will help you ask for a meeting with your Legislator.
- A “Best Practices” document filled with tips and tricks that will help you get the most out of your meeting with an elected official.
- A sample Policy for Adopting Positions on State Legislation that will allow you to submit position letters in a timely manner.
- A sample bill position letter as well as a helpful position letter checklist.
- Sample Letters to the Editor on a variety of different topics that your special district can personalize and send to your local paper.
- Directories for the California State Assembly, California State Senate, US House of Representatives, and US Senate.
- A link to our Grassroots Mobilization Survey.
Now that Take Action Month is over, it’s time to mark your calendars for Special Districts Week!
During Special Districts Week, special district representatives will be able to make their voices heard in Sacramento. You can register to attend Special Districts Legislative Days where you will join together with special district leaders to learn about and advocate on pressing state and federal issues impacting your special district.
