Special districts provide essential services to millions of Californians every day, and it’s time for us to tell our story. The Capitol, the media, and most importantly, the community you serve should understand the difference your special district makes.

Now that Take Action Month is over, it’s time to mark your calendars for Special Districts Legislative Days! We are very much looking forward to what comes next.

Special Districts Legislative Days will be held in Sacramento on May 17-18, 2022. During this time, special district representatives will have the opportunity to hear from top state decision-makers as well as build coalitions and strengthen partnerships. Whether your district is large or small, rural or urban, an airport district, water district, or anything in between—this is an important time to come together with one united voice.

You can learn more and register for Special Districts Legislative Days at: https://legislativedays.csda.net/home.

As a reminder, our Take Action Month Toolkit will remain available at https://www.csda.net/advocate/take-action/ta-toolkit.

In the toolkit you will find:

  • A sample meeting request letter that will help you ask for a meeting with your legislator.
  • A “Best Practices” document filled with tips and tricks that will help you get the most out of your meeting with an elected official.
  • A sample Policy for Adopting Positions on State Legislation that will allow you to submit position letters in a timely manner
  • A sample bill position letter as well as a helpful position letter checklist.
  • Sample Letters to the Editor on a variety of different topics that your special district can personalize and send to your local paper.
  • Directories for the California State Assembly, California State Senate, US House of Representatives, and US Senate.
  • A link to our Grassroots Mobilization Survey.

Thank you for joining us as we work together to spread the word about the important work you do.
