The California State Legislature’s Summer Recess, beginning upon adjournment on July 2, 2026, marks the deadline for each house to pass bills out of their respective policy committees. The Legislature will return on August 3, 2026, and session will end August 31, 2026.
In the second year of the 2025-2026 Legislative Session, the California State Legislature introduced and CSDA reviewed 2,178 measures. CSDA’s Legislative Committee adopted positions on 1,475 bills and other measures, including 235 priority positions, such as “support” and “oppose”.

To make sure your district is ready to respond to a CSDA Call to Action in the fast-moving legislative environment, make sure your district has adopted a Legislative Advocacy Policy, governing the process your agency must go through to register your support or opposition to an issue that significantly impacts special districts.
