The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) stands as a dedicated federal initiative specifically designed to bolster libraries across the nation. Its overarching aim revolves around the expansion of educational services and the facilitation of access to diverse information resources within various library settings, catering to individuals of all ages within communities. Annually, Congress allocates funding to support the LSTA’s endeavors.

Administered by the California State Library, the 2023-2024 Inspiration Grant, fueled by the LSTA, remains accessible for application submission until November 30 at 12 pm. This grant presents an opportunity distinct from the State Library’s other grant offerings. Aspiring applicants can request a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $100,000 for their proposed projects. All libraries in California hold eligibility for the Inspiration Grant.

The evaluation process for applicants comprises of two review rounds. Decisions regarding funding for applicants received in November will be made in December. Successful candidates can anticipate the reception of project funds within 8-10 weeks subsequent to the State Library’s acknowledgement of the payment claim. The project’s commencement may occur either in December 2023 or January 2024, concluding by June 30. Recipients of the award must fulfill comprehensive project reporting obligations.

The ensure adherence to funding regulations, a designated Library Programs Coordinator and Grant Monitor will provide support for the project, guaranteeing compliance with established rules and regulations. Prospective applicants must satisfy the general eligibility criteria outlined by the LSTA, align with the State Library’s ongoing LSTA five-year strategy, comply with federal funding restrictions, and partake in the Public Library Survey annually.
