DAW-flyer-editable-02.jpgFollowing Secretary Padilla’s presentation at CSDA’s Virtual Special Districts Legislative Day, the California Secretary of State’s office reached out to CSDA looking for a district representative/liaison on a new Task Force that is striving to establish sufficient polling sites in time for the November 2020 general election, given the COVID-19 pandemic. CSDA Vice-President Ryan Clausnitzer has been appointed as that district liaison on that Task Force, and they are meeting regularly in these coming months with the goal of expanding polling sites statewide which could include numerous special districts.

Alameda County, in particular, has been identified as a part of the state that is in SERIOUS NEED of more voting locations. The California Secretary of State’s Office is currently looking for multiple voting locations all over the County, including in-person voting locations and vote-by-mail drop box locations.
Special districts in Alameda County are eligible and encouraged to host voting locations! Local County Election Officials will review your potential location to assess if your site meets their needs, including:

  • sufficient space to accommodate voting machines, voting booths, table(s)/chairs
  • minimum of 2,400 square feet
  • restroom availability for poll workers
  • meets American Disability Act (ADA) accessibility standards
  • adequate lighting both inside and outside
  • multiple electrical outlets
  • secured area to store equipment
  • access prior to Election Day(s) for a site visit and daily set up
  • sufficient parking, including accessible parking
  • proximity to public transportation
  • community access

There are required days and hours in order to host both a voting location and a vote-by-mail ballot drop box location – view flyer for more of this information. To learn more about hosting a voting location or a vote-by-mail ballot drop box location, please visit the California Secretary of State’s Democracy at Work website, or email them at democracyatwork@sos.ca.gov.
