By Rosario Cortés Kapeller posted 09-06-2022 02:44 PM

CSDA continues to attend the daily morning and afternoon updates as moderated by Christine Hironaka, the Governor's Deputy Cabinet Secretary; today, we were in an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 1 status.  She reiterated the need for conservation.  Your outreach for demand reduction is much appreciated.

Mark Rothleder, senior vice president and Chief Operating Officer at the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) shared that, "at this point [it is] quite possible that we get to EEA 2...potential for EEA 3...will depend on how conservation works."  For your reference, please see attached an explanation of the Energy Alert System.

He also shared that tomorrow, Tuesday, September 6th, they are forecasting the following shortfall, [HE (hour ending)] and expecting "similar to today likely calling an EEA 1":

HE18 [5:00-6:00p]: 2027 megawatts (MW)
HE19 [6:00-7:00p]: 3400 MW
HE20 [7:00-8:00p]: 2000 MW
HE21 [8:00-9:00p]: 400 MW

The maximum shortfall for tomorrow is expected to be slightly better than today.

Brian Goldman, the Governor's Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary, provided the Legal Waivers Currently In Place For The Extreme Heat Event Emergency (see attached).

At this time, the Siskiyou County Mill Fire has not disrupted transmission lines.

Also, for your information attached is the California Energy Commission weekend guideline advisory for the implementation and rules of the Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS) Program in response to Governor Newsom's Proclamation of a State of Emergency from August 31, 2022, through September 7, 2022, Executive Order N-14-2, and any future extensions related to this extreme heat event.

If you are taking efforts to reduce your power load, please email rosariok@csda.net so we can share your responsiveness with the Governor's Office.
