By Ophelia Szigeti posted 06-26-2025 12:23 PM

CAL FIRE is now accepting applications for its Wildfire Prevention Grant Program for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year. The application period closes on August 6, 2025.

This grant supports projects aimed at reducing wildfire risk in fire-prone areas, especially those near vulnerable communities. Funded activities must enhance the protection of people, homes, and neighborhoods from wildfires. Projects located in disadvantaged or low-income communities, or those that demonstrate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, may receive priority consideration.

Eligible applicants include special districts and Joint Powers Authorities (JPA). The grant program provides funding in three main categories:

  • Hazardous Fuels Reduction
  • Wildfire Prevention Planning
  • Wildfire Prevention Education

Examples of eligible projects include vegetation management, the creation and maintenance of fire breaks, community wildfire readiness programs, wildfire hazard mapping, local hazard mitigation planning, and public outreach focused on fire hardening for homes and communities. All proposed activities are subject to CAL FIRE review and approval.

For more information, applicants may contact CAL FIRE at WPGrants@fire.ca.gov. Additional details and regional contact information are available on the CAL FIRE Wildfire and Prevention Grants website.
