Grant Opportunities for Special Districts

Two grant opportunities are currently available to special districts though the California Grants Portal, targeting illegal disposal site abatement and hazard mitigation. The first is the Illegal Disposal Site Abatement Grant Program, which provides financial support for solid waste cleanup projects designed to safeguard public health, safety, and the environment within the district’s jurisdiction. The application deadline is October 16 at 11:59 PM, and additional details can be accessed via the program’s page on the California Grants Portal.

The second opportunity is the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, managed by the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES). This program enables special districts to apply as sub-applicants through any county in California. OES is accepting Notices of Interest (NOI) on an ongoing basis for future funding, prioritizing projects that reduce risks to life and property from natural disasters. To qualify, applicants must have a FEMA-approved and locally adopted Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). Further details and applicant instructions can be found on the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program page of the California Grants Portal.
