Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a State of Emergency in response to the “Extreme Heat Event” that California will be experiencing over the next few days. Among the various directions in the proclamation, the Governor is directing the Air Resources Board to “exercise maximum discretion to permit the use of stationary and portable generators or auxiliary ship engines to reduce the strain on the energy infrastructure and increase energy capacity during the Extreme Heat Event.”

In an effort to sufficient energy supplies to meet the anticipated demands and avoid rolling blackouts, the proclamation permits power plants to generate more power by suspending certain permitting requirements. In the event of a power outage, the proclamation states that the use of stationary generators during the Extreme Heat Event shall be deemed an “emergency use.”
