Comment Period for Draft Water Resilience Portfolio Approaching

By Alyssa Silhi posted 01-16-2020 03:58 PM

The California Natural Resources Agency, California Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Food and Agriculture developed a draft Water Resiliency Portfolio to fulfill Governor Gavin Newsom's April 29 executive order calling for a portfolio of actions to ensure the state's long-term water resilience and ecosystem health.

The portfolio was charged with integrating and building on programs, policies and investments already in place to build a climate-resilient water system. The Governor's executive order emphasized the need for innovation and new technologies, strengthened partnerships, and regional approaches.

They have released the draft Water Resilience Portfolio with a suite of recommended actions aimed to help California deal with extreme droughts and floods, rising temperatures, declining fish populations, aging infrastructure and other challenges.

The draft outlines more than 100 integrated actionable recommendations in four broad areas:
1. Maintain and diversify supplies
2. Protect and enhance natural systems
3. Build connections
4. Be prepared

You may access the draft Water Resilience Portfolio here.
Written feedback is invited through February 7, 2020, via email to input@waterresilience.ca.gov.

A final version of the Water Resilience Portfolio considering this additional feedback will be released soon after.
