Background
Assembly Member Juan Carrillo introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution 36 on February 20, 2025. This is California’s 7th annual year celebrating Special Districts, and the CSDA hopes that this year’s Special Districts Week will make an even greater impact for our communities. Similar to previous years, Assembly Concurrent Resolution 36 encourages all Californians to engage with their local government and become actively involved with the Special Districts that serve them.
This year’s Special Districts Week runs from May 18 – 24, coinciding with the CSDA’s 2025 Special Districts Legislative Days. CSDA will pre-arrange Legislative Office Visits between Legislators, their staff and the special districts that provide essential services to their communities. This will establish connections between local governments and their state elected representatives.
Resolutions from prior years include Assembly Concurrent Resolution 163, introduced by Assembly Member Gregg Hart and chaptered in June of 2024. This resolution proclaimed the week of May 19 to May 25 to be Special Districts Week. In the previous year, SCR 52 was introduced by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil that proclaimed the week of May 14 to May 20 to be Special Districts Week. In 2022, Assembly Member Bauer-Kahan introduced ACR 180 – similarly proclaiming the week of May 15 – May 21 as the Special Districts Week.
