SUPERVISORY TRAINING
A comprehensive overview of the issues and responsibilities related to the supervisor’s role
It is a considerable challenge to be an effective supervisor. Competent employees are
often promoted to this critical position without fully understanding what is expected of them
and without adequate training. This workshop will address critical issues that can make a
difference in your workload, relationships with co-workers and subordinates and ultimately
to the constituents you serve in your district.
During this training seminar, you will learn:
• How to balance and manage your time effectively
• How to avoid the common “traps” of supervision
• How and what to delegate
• How to deliver an effective evaluation
• Your role in creating an environment for positive morale
• When to enforce policies and when to bend the rules
• Effective communication strategies
This one-day workshop also offers attendees an opportunity
to network and learn with one another.

FACULTY
Charles (Chuck) Beesley was the general manager of the Contra Costa Mosquito
and Vector Control District for 23 years. He took a low-profile mosquito abatement
district at the brink of extinction after Proposition 13 and transformed it into a
well-respected, countywide mosquito and vector control district. Under his leadership,
the district successfully consolidated two mosquito control agencies, absorbed those
services from the county for improved efficiencies, built state-of-the-art facilities and
successfully dealt with a 45 percent loss of state revenues. A past president of the
California Special Districts Association, Chuck is now a consultant to special districts,
conducts planning, team-building, and general manager training workshops and is
currently a presenter for CSDA’s Special District Leadership Academy.
Dennis Timoney is the Claims & Loss Prevention Manager for the Special District
Risk Management Authority (SDRMA). Dennis has over 20 years experience handling
insurance claims and risk management for both private and public entities. In the past
12 years, Dennis has focused on managing public entity claims for school districts,
police, fire, community services, park and recreation and numerous other types of
special districts throughout California. Dennis has conducted a variety of risk management
related workshops for special districts including sexual harassment training.
