The National Special Districts Coalition provides weekly highlights for CSDA Members on newly-opened federal grant opportunities, as curated by The Ferguson Group (TFG). This week’s selection of new grant opportunities include:

Department of Energy

FY 2023 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant: Formula Funds

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program will assist states, units of local government, and Indian Tribes in implementing strategies to reduce fossil fuel emissions, reduce total energy use, and to improve energy efficiency. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local and state governments and Native American tribal governments

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $4.8 million

Department of Energy

FY 2023 Building Upgrade Challenge

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program aims to build capacity to rapidly and equitably transform U.S. buildings. Teams will submit innovative concepts to leverage the billions of dollars available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), utility rebate programs, and many other funding sources, capitalizing on this once-in-a-generation opportunity to equitably transform a wide variety of buildings across diverse geographies. Click here for more information.

Department of Homeland Security

FY 2023 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to prevent targeted violence and terrorism through funding, training, increased public awareness, and the development of partnerships across every level of the government, the private sector, and in local communities across the country. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local and state governments, institutions of higher education, and Native American tribal governments

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $20 million

WHEN'S IT DUE? April 25, 2023

 

Department of Housing and Urban Development

FY 2022 Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) Grant Program Round 2

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to maximize the number of children under the age of six years protected from lead poisoning by assisting eligible applicants in undertaking comprehensive projects to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately owned rental or owner-occupied housing populations. Awards must be used to provide assistance for pre-1978 housing. Click here for more information.

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $403 million

Department of Housing and Urban Development

FY 2022 Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) Grant Program Round 2

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to evaluate and reduce residential health hazards in public housing, including lead-based paint, carbon monoxide, mold, radon, fire safety, and asbestos. Awards will support the funding agency's overarching goal of ensuring everyone has an affordable, healthy place to live. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Public housing authorities (PHAs) with the legal authority to develop, own, modernize, and operate a public housing project.

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $107 million

Department of Justice

FY 2023 Adult Treatment Court Site-Based

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program provides funding to plan, implement, and enhance substance use treatment courts, including service coordination, management of treatment court participants, fidelity to the model, and recovery support services. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local and state governments, state courts, local courts, Native American tribal governments

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $43.2 million

WHEN'S IT DUE? April 11, 2023 (Grants.gov); April 18, 2023 (JustGrants)

 

Department of Justice

FY 2023 Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to support a comprehensive approach to addressing abuse in later life, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, neglect, abandonment, economic abuse, or willful harm committed against victims who are 50 years of age or older. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? States, including the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, units of local government, tribal governments or tribal organizations, population specific

organizations, victim service providers and state, tribal, or territorial domestic violence or sexual assault coalitions

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $5.5 million

WHEN'S IT DUE? February 28, 2023 (Grants.gov); March 2, 2023 (JustGrants) 

 

Department of Transportation

FY 2023 Areas of Persistent Poverty Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to support the planning, engineering, and development of technical or financing plans for transit projects that assist areas of persistent poverty or historically disadvantaged communities. Click here for more information. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local and state governments, special districts, Native American tribal governments, public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations other than small businesses, and designated or direct subrecipients eligible under 49 U.S.C. 5307, 49 U.S.C. 5310, or 49 U.S.C. 5311 that are located in areas of persistent poverty or Historically Disadvantaged Communities

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $20 million

Districts pursuing grants but are uncertain of their options may complete NSDC’s Project Idea Portal for a connection directly to TFG.
