CalPERS.jpegGiven the $67 billion in CalPERS pension fund losses since January and the recent changes to the restriction surrounding retired annuitants’ hours as a result of Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Orders, many CalPERS members have questions about what’s next. With new demands for labor and certain skills, special districts may also be looking to take advantage of Governor Newsom’s executive order loosening restrictions surrounding retired annuitants during the State of Emergency. Special districts can seek answers to their questions at two upcoming webinars focused on the most pressing pension questions in midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

April 8: CalPERS Preparedness & Resiliency for Employer Partners

How significant and when should employers expect CalPERS to make changes to rates? How will laid-off or furloughed workers’ pensions be impacted? What is CalPERS doing to mitigate the losses and what are the next steps for CalPERS and the members they serve? These are just some of the topics that CalPERS will be discussing on a webinar they are hosting on Wednesday, April 8, from 10:00-11:30 AM. During the webinar CalPERS executives will update public agency members on the State of the Fund in response to COVID-19.

April 9: The Role of Retirees in the COVID-19 Response

In these unprecedented times, the skill and knowledge of former public servants now in retired status is an essential element to a public agency’s response to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Recent Executive Orders issued by Governor Newsom have eliminated some of the barriers to the retention of retirees, but others remain. This CSDA webinar, on Thursday, April 9 from 10:00-11:00am, will identify the applicable rules, as modified in response to COVID-19, to ensure continued compliance and avoid any detrimental impact to the retiree and your agency.
