Madera Irrigation District (MID or District) is excited to announce a special opportunity available only to its landowners. MID has partnered with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and successfully secured $1.5 million in funding for MID landowners for on-farm practices that aid in conserving water. This funding is part of the WaterSMART Initiative funding that is a collaborative effort between the NRCS, Department of Interior, and local agencies.

Madera Irrigation District one of only three priority areas selected in the entire Western United States for this funding. Landowners in MID can apply for these funds through the NRCS for conservation practices such as irrigation water management, irrigation pipelines, structures for water control, pumps, micro irrigation systems, cover crops, and additional practices.

MID is committed to making real opportunities available to its landowners that support the sustainability and viability of irrigated agriculture in District. MID encourages all District landowners who are interested to contact the NRCS and take advantage of this great opportunity.

“MID is thrilled to announce this program for its landowners. It is such an accomplishment to have been selected as one of only three priority areas in the entire Western United States. We want to thank the NRCS staff for helping make this a reality in Madera” stated Jim Erickson, MID Board President.

Applications for these funds will be taken starting April 1, 2023 at the Madera NRCS Field Office located at 425 N Gateway Dr. Suite K, Madera, CA 93637. You can also contact the Madera NRCS at 559-363-4597.
