CSDA is seeking the latest and greatest in presentation proposals to help special district leaders excel in their communities. Submit your presentation ideas for any or all of the conferences scheduled in 2023, BUT please tailor session content to the specific conference audience.


Special District Leadership Academy (Returning Track) – this conference is targeted for special district board members and trustee

February & September, Location TBD

Sample requested topics from previous attendees: special district laws update (such as brown act, CVRA, etc.; healthy board culture / civility; financial best practices / funding sources; strategic planning and community engagement

 

General Manager Leadership Summit – this conference is targeted for special district managers and emerging leaders

June 25 - 27, 2023 – Olympic Valley, CA (Lake Tahoe area)

Sample requested topics from previous attendees: new HR laws; employee evaluations; building public input; leadership; and coaching. 

 

Annual Conference & Exhibitor Showcase – this conference is targeted for all special district elected officials and staff

August 28 – 31, 2023 – Monterey, CA       

Sample requested topics from previous attendees: finance related topics; the Brown Act; Roberts Rules of Order; safety; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI); federal infrastructure funding; recent innovations and initiatives; consolidation of special districts; grant funding opportunities; sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction; public works projects; prevailing wages; communication strategies; CEQA; budgeting; drones; and community outreach / engagement.

 

Board Secretary / Clerk Conference

October/November, Location TBD

Sample requested topics from previous attendees: new laws; Brown Act, public records (including archiving, electronic vs paper); onboarding new board members; board election process; tips from experienced board secretaries and clerks; LAFCo process; and communications.

Preference is given to proposals that incorporate a special district perspective, presenter, and/or case studies. Presentations should be educational and not focused on sales or specific products. Submission deadline is COB on Friday, December 2.
