The Peninsula Health Care District announced Wednesday, March 25, a $3 million contribution to aid San Mateo County’s response to protect public health. And earlier this month, the Sequoia Healthcare District set aside the same amount to finance partner organizations fighting on the front lines against the pandemic. County officials expressed their appreciation for the Peninsula Health Care District’s contribution, which is expected to backfill voids left from other funding sources.

During a special meeting held over phones Tuesday, the Ukiah Valley Sanitation District board of directors voted unanimously to postpone implementing rate increases for their sewer customers. At a joint meeting earlier this month, both the Sanitation District board and the Ukiah City Council approved a study recommending rate increases, and at the same meeting the City Council approved starting the Prop. 218 process of sending out notices. Later at a separate meeting, the Sanitation District also approved beginning the Prop. 218 process. However, Horsley and other board members Tuesday questioned whether they should reconsider that action given how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting people’s lives.
