Monterrosa_with_Dignitaries.jpgLast week, Erubiel Monterrosa of Independence High School in Bakersfield was awarded the first-place scholarship prize of $2,000 for his video entry in the 2019 Districts Make the Difference Video Contest. He was presented his prize at North of the River Recreation and Park District and received recognition from CSDA and state legislators.

CSDA Board President and West Side Cemetery District General Manager, Joel Bauer, presented Erubiel’s check in front of his teachers and the local media. Over 1,000 people voted for the top five finalists in the video contest designed to promote public awareness and understanding of the special districts that provide communities with essential services like water, sanitation, healthcare, fire protection, parks, and many more.

Maryam Aslam of Sacramento is the second-place winner and will receive recognition in March. The third-place winner, Jordan Chan of San Marcos will be recognized at the beginning of February. Districts Make the Difference is a public outreach campaign sponsored by CSDA to increase public awareness and understanding of special districts and promote civic engagement.
