Revised Date for Mandatory Transition to New Time of Use Periods for PG&E Commercial and Industrial Customers

Districts served by PG&E have the option to transition to new electricity rates before automatically transitioning in March 2021.  If districts are transitioned at the optimal time before then, savings can be significant.

Revised Date for Mandatory Transition to New Time of Use Periods for PG&E Commercial and Industrial Customers.  See the attached PG&E Advice Letter, which was filed on March 20 and takes effect April 19.

Two key changes for district Members to know:  (1) New PG&E rates/TOU periods will become mandatory March 2021, rather than November 2020, and (2) Customers who opt in to the new rates before March 2021 have a one-time opportunity to opt out (also before March 2021) – this is critical because it allows Districts to choose the best rate during each portion of the period between now and March 2021.

For any district that is looking at this, it is really important to factor in these changes in its analysis.  The savings can be significant.  If not, then CSDA Endorsed Affiliate Member Utility Cost Management LLC (UCM) can analyze detailed 15-minute interval data to identify which accounts will benefit from pre-emptive rate changes, and more importantly, precisely when the changes should be made to maximize these savings.
