Special Districts Week 2023

Districts can take action to get engaged now by following a few simple steps:

Background

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 52 on April 10, 2023. Similar to previous years, the resolution encourages Californians across the state to engage with their local communities and be actively involved with their government, particularly with special districts and the areas they serve. This year, Special Districts Week, which runs from May 14 to May 20, also coincides with CSDA’s 2023 Special Districts Legislative Days.

Resolutions from prior years include Assembly Concurrent Resolution 180, which was chaptered into law on June 17, 2022 and proclaimed the week of May 15 to May 21 to be Special Districts Week.

In 2021, Assembly Member Randy Voepel (R – Santee) introduced ACR 17, which proclaimed the week of May 16, 2021 to May 22, 2021 to be Special Districts Week.

Prior to that, in 2020, Assembly Member Randy Voepel introduced ACR 179 which proclaimed the week of May 17, 2020, to May 23, 2020, to be Special Districts Week. In 2019, Assembly Member Ken Cooley (D – Rancho Cordova) introduced ACR 89, which proclaimed the week of September 22, 2019, to September 28, 2019, to be Special Districts Week. These previous resolutions encouraged all Californians to be involved in their communities and be civically engaged with their local government.
