State Controller to Release Partial Compensation Data for Special Districts
Legislative Highlight
Friday, 10 February 2012 09:24

The State Controller’s office is scheduled to release compensation data for special districts that provide fire, police, transit, transportation planning and waste services today. Special districts should have filed a 2010 Government Compensation Report along with a completed annual financial transactions report within 90 days after the close of the district’s fiscal year when submitting reports by paper; within 110 days after the close of the district’s fiscal year when submitting report by electronic format; or within 120 days after the close of a hospital district’s fiscal year when submitting report electronically.

Due to the large number of agencies, the publishing of compensation information is being divided into four groups.

Group 1: Special districts that provide fire, police, transit, transportation planning and waste
Estimated Publishing Date: February 2012

Group 2: Special districts that provide land reclamation and levee maintenance, health, hospital and water
Estimated Publishing Date: March 2012

Group 3:
Special districts that provide cemetery, electric, financing or construction facilities, flood control and water conservation, recreation and park, and community service districts
Estimated Publishing Date: May 2012

Group 4: All other special districts
Estimated Publishing Date: June 2012

County and city compensation data was posted on the Controller’s website in December 2011. The Controller’s office has sent delinquency letters to districts that have failed to file either the Financial Transaction Report and/or the Compensation Report. Pursuant to Government Code Section 53895, districts that fail or refuse to file either of these reports may face a fine of up to $5,000.
