The CSDA education calendar features important workshops and webinars in July. Special District Leadership Academy (SDLA) courses are available on various dates, in different locations.
Ethics compliance training is being offered in the very popular webinar format in mid-July and, later in the month, in a more personal setting, as a workshop. You will find Board Secretary/Clerk training also scheduled for later in July if you check our online Education Calendar. In the meantime, here is a peek at what is coming up soon.
July 14 – SDLA - Governance Foundations This is the first module of the Special District Leadership Academy. It teaches the fundamental concepts behind the structure and organization of a governance team. This education is crucial to building the layers of responsibility, guidance, accountability and compliance required of every local agency. The workshop will be instructed by David Aranda and held at the Oxnard Harbor District in Port Hueneme on Wednesday, July 14.

July 15 – SDLA – Board's Role in Human Resources This is the fourth module of the Special District Leadership Academy. Like all of the SDLA courses, it focuses on strengthening the character and culture of the board as a governance team. This study concentrates on the relationship between the board and its supporting staff who carry out the mission and vision the board sets for the district. This relationship is critical for any work environment, but especially so for special district boards. The board must recognize and understand its particular role in guiding and supporting its key employee, the general manager. The bond between the board and the general manager is the mechanism the board uses to steer the district along its desired course.
